SMPLink™, SMP and Microsoft® Windows 7

Bunt Software is proud to announce that SMPLink™ will support the Windows 7 operating system.

We had spent a couple of weeks in 2010 trying to get the Panasonic System Manager Pro (SMP) software working on Windows 7. We tried lots of combinations including Windows XP compatibility mode which should run the application in a virtual machine. Nothing worked.

Knowing that Windows XP has a stated end of life and hearing that SMP was running in a few sites, we decided to give it another try. The key to making this work is to run the 32-bit version of Windows 7 called x86. We had no idea how different the 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 were in the area of compatibility.

We have tested SMP and found that everything works including web services (using IIS7) and the SDK. We have also tested SMPLink™ and found the same. We are currently working on scripts to allow the software to be run in limited user mode.

SMPLink™ will be supported on Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate (x86 versions only). Since no changes were made to SMPLink™ to support this change, this configuration will be fully PCI compliant.

Look here soon for an announcement where we will announce the release of this configuration.

As of March, 2012, SMPLink™ is supported on Windows 7 (x86 only).

Bunt Software is the maker of SMPLink™, a PA-DSS validated credit card interface software developed specifically for Panasonic System Manager Pro (SMP) users that integrates seamlessly with Merchant Link’s TransactionVault® – a system that stores sensitive cardholder data in a secure vault – not on your back office computer.

SMPLink™ has processed over 20 million transactions to date and has nearly 500 sites installed.

SMPLink™ is the ONLY PA-DSS compliant credit interface for the Panasonic System Manager Pro (SMP) pos system.
