Is System Manager Pro PCI compliant? No.

We recently spoke with a dealer about a restaurant owner who believes that his Panasonic System Manager Pro system is PCI compliant because he uses security products by Vendor Safe Technologies.

Vendor Safe offers network security products including an insurance product called $100k TrustVault™. On their web site, we found a whitepaper entitled “Approved Software Does Not Equate to PCI Compliance”. It tries to stress the point that PCI compliant software ALONE does not make the merchant compliant; but it goes too far. It leads merchants into a false sense of security; thinking that they are so secure that they can safely run non-compliant or vulnerable payment applications. A quick phone call will tell you that the $100k TrustVault™policy will only pay out if you are using a validated payment application.

Is Panasonic System Manager Pro a PA-DSS validated payment application? No

Search on the PCI council website for yourself. Next search for “Bunt Software” or “SMPLink”.

SMPLink™ was PA-DSS validated by Halock Security Labs.

According to a recent study conducted by the Ponemon Institute called “Aftermath of a Data Breach Study”, 60 percent of the organizations had not encrypted the data that was breached. SMPLink™ goes one step further, by not storing credit card data on the back office computer at all.

SMPLink™ is credit card interface software developed specifically for Panasonic System Manager Pro (SMP) users that integrates seamlessly with Merchant Link’s TransactionVault® – a system that stores sensitive cardholder data in a secure vault – not on your back office computer.

Bunt Software has over 500 SMPLink™ sites installed with another 75 in the process of being installed. SMPLink™ processes 50,000 credit transactions per day and has processed over 18 million credit transactions to date.

SMPLink™ is the ONLY PA-DSS compliant credit interface for the Panasonic System Manager Pro (SMP) pos system.
