SMPLink™ v3.0 drops support for SSL v3

by Don Bunt 11. January 2017 16:55

When SMPLink™ was first created in 2010, the PCI Council recommended using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) V3 for communications across the internet. In recent years, several vulnerabilities have been found, including the POODLE vulnerability. These vulnerabilities can allow hackers access to credit card track data. SSL V3 is no longer PCI compliant.

In the meantime, a new and more secure mechanism was born, Transport Layer Security (TLS). The communication layer in SMPLink™ V3.0 has been rewritten to use exclusively TLS v1.2; the most secure transport layer available. SMPLink™ v3.0 is PA-DSS v3.1 compliant.

Merchants using older versions SMPLink™ need to move to SMPLink™ version 3.0 as soon as possible to avoid being the target of hacking. Contact your dealer to upgrade today.

With the help of Bunt Software, Panasonic has released System Manager Pro version 4.0 powered by SMPLink™ v3.0. SMPLink™ is installed with every copy and SMP version 4.0 supports Windows 7, 8 and 10.

SMPLink™ has had over 910 sites installed and has processed over 200 million transactions since 2010.

SMPLink™ is the BEST credit interface for the Panasonic System Manager Pro (SMP) pos system.
