7900/3 wkstns - #2 wkstn beeps 3 short tones(the same sound and pitch as when the MSR is swiped, but MSR only beeps twice). This happens every 10 -15 seconds all day long. Doesn't appear to affect the operation at all, but is very annoying to the cashiers. This also happens on wkstn #1, but maybe more like every couple minutes. It does not appear to happen on wkstn #3. I cleaned the MSR & replaced the battery, but did not help. Anyone have any ideas what is causing this or what can be done to fix it?

Dave,

I think the register is looking for a device. Are they experiencing any kind of delay\retry time with the register?
You said it's not affecting the operation, so I'm guessing no delay. Are they getting an error or just an error number with no error description? Make sure you have message line window on the overlay they are using.
Double check all the rs232\channel # flag settings. As I mentioned before, the register might be looking for a device connected that is actually not connected, like a coin dispenser?

It could also be a corrupted flag table. As a test, you could assign the same flag tables that reg 3 uses to reg 2.
Then downline to reg 2. If the beep stops then you know it's the flag table, either a setting or corruption.
Also, look at the log files on reg 2. They may offer some assistance.

Hope this helps.

Dan

Also check the minor alerts... It could be a warning from that app...

Good point....., but.
If the employee minor alert was the problem then all registers would be experiencing the same phenomenon\error, unless reg 2 has an outdated P_wsi file. Re-downlining the entire program from SMP to reg 2 should have solved that problem by now.
You could delete the P_wsi files on reg 2 and then downline everything.

When configuring the minor alerts you have the choice of where (terminal number) and how (print, auditory beep or both)

another good point from DavidNiell.
If you're not getting a print out and you're getting an "auditory beep" for Minor Alert you should also be getting an error number\message for "Minor Alert". If the crew are not seeing an error number\message, then I would look at the log files on the register or the system manager. I'm confident that the log files will give you a hint.

Are they running as a "dont sign off cashier" system? if so, they is a feature with in the WSApp that times out and tries to log off the cashier. there is a bug with that becuase it follows that all void security. if it is manager compulsed, then it beeps and gives an error. try turning off the timer in the waspp. Goto Layout properties/key board time out.
